Job Description
Responsible for overseeing the daily activities, performance, and personnel issues of the pharmacy. Will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the department's schedule, staffing needs, recruitment, and coordination of special projects and Joint Commission Accreditation. The Assistant Director is essential to the successful operations of the pharmacy and provides critical support and feedback to the Network Pharmacy Director, assisting in the long-range planning and direction of Pharmacy Services. The Assistant Director is responsible for championing the mission and goals of the pharmacy department.
Responsibilities
Manage, coordinate and direct operational and patient care activities within the area of responsibility.
This includes the following activities:
A. Responsible for all staff scheduling and monitoring time/leave, absenteeism, and taking corrective actions as needed. Coordinates staff functions to ensure consistency in providing quality services and coordinates the departments daily schedule and deployment of staff where needed.
B. Assist in developing departmental goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and projects as they align with Joint Commission's MM Standards, National Patient Safety Goals, and other regulatory agencies.
C. Assist in planning and supporting the department's performance improvement projects and staff development activities.
D. Assists the Director of Pharmacy in planning for current and future needs relative to resources, technology,and improving pharmaceutical services.
E. Assists and supports the Director of Pharmacy in growing and developing services provided through the unit dose distribution systems and any automation.
F. Assists in coordinating department activities and relationships with other departments
G. Coordinates activities and develops a vision and plan for the growth and optimization/enhancement of the services provided. H. Assist in communicating and meeting with the department's supervisory and other professional and non-professional personnel.
I. Assist in conducting staff meetings to keep pharmacy personnel up to date on new protocols, procedures, and policies.
J. Stays current with professional organizations and governing regulatory bodies as it affects the scope of practice of license pharmacy professionals.
Manage, coordinate and direct people leadership activities within the area of responsibility.
This includes the following activities:
A. Assists in selection of the pharmacy personnel, guides them in their performance, trains and reviews their performance, makes recommendations regarding the efficiency of department personnel (their performance, potential, and development), and follows through in accordance with organizational policies and programs on such matters including but not limited to compensation, , training programs, performance management, and team member experience.
B. Monitors annual training, competencies, and compliance requirements (ie. Vaccines) as required.
Ensure pharmacy maintains a continuous state of readiness for all regulatory agencies.
A. Ensure the network maintains a continuous state of readiness for the Joint Commission as it relates to the medication management chapter. Regularly report progress to the appropriate teams as required
B. Work with the Pharmacy Director to ensure all applicable pharmacy regulations are met including Ohio Board of Pharmacy, DSCSA, USP 797,USP 795, USP 800, DEA, FDA, and Department of Health.
C. Assist in monitoring all quality assurance programs to ensure adherence to laws, policies, and procedures.
D. Work with the Medical Directors, Chief Clinical Officer, and Chief Operating Officer to ensure policies and procedures supporting appropriate prescribing and compliance with applicable regulations
E. Manage all recalls using RASMAS daily
F. Review all medication errors, ADR's, and unreconciled Pyxis pulls.
Assist in management of expenditures and revenues in areas of responsibility.
A. Assist with the department's budget and ensure monitoring and alignment with organizational goals.
B. Implement cost saving initiatives in areas of responsibility.
C. Ensure appropriate supply and personnel resource utilization.
Participate on various hospital committees and teams as appropriate.

B. Chair-Drug Diversion Committee
C. Department Workgroups (IT, Performance Improvement, Focus)
D. Patient Safety Committee
E. Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
F. Joint Commission Committees (EOC/Emergency Comm, Chapter Leaders)
G. Physician Leadership Council - Quality Committee
H. Ambulatory IT Committee
I. TCHP Patient Safety Case Review
J. Additional Committees as assigned
Assume responsibilities for Director of Pharmacy during temporary or planned absences.
As a representative of both The Christ Hospital and Department of Pharmacy Services, promote a positive image in all dealings with all other hospital associates and customers.
Perform other related functions as needed and/or assigned by the Director, Pharmacy Services.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION:
B.S. in Pharmacy required.
Master's degree or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) or equivalent experience preferred.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
Five Years of full time experience as a licensed practicing pharmacist, of which at least 3 years shall have been in an administrative, managerial, or supervisory capacity in a hospital pharmacy.

Demonstrated pharmacy practice skills required.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills required.
Demonstrated Human Resource skills required
Demonstrated committee participation and leadership skills required

Licensed or eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Ohio.
