Job Description
Performs treatment planning activities including treatment device fabrication (molds, blocks, compensators, etc.). Development of computerized dosimetry for radiotherapy patients. Provides basic patient care to patients when performing procedures and treatment
Responsibilities
Incorporation of patient data from medical imaging procedures as it pertains to simulation and treatment planning (i.e., CT SIMULATION, 4-D CT, MRI, PET and CT Angiography). In conjunction with the Radiation Oncologist, the Dosimetrist assists in localization of the target volume and contours easily discernable critical structures. A computerized treatment plan is developed.
Communicates the development of the optimal treatment plan with the Radiation Oncologist, Physicist and or Therapist. A Dose Volume Histogram is presented to the Physician.
Performs the transfer and documentation of treatment parameters, manually or electronically, according to department policies.
Fabrication and design of custom made blocks, compensation filters, immobilization positioning devices and bolus material as required.
Participates in fiscal practices, such as billing and charge audits, in accordance with institutional policies.
Weekly physics chart checks are done every fifth treatment. Daily and total dose, portal accuracy, time out procedure, et al, are reviewed as outlined in the department policy
Participates in radiation safety requirements of department and applies the principles of ALARA. Distribution and ordering of personnel monitoring devices.
Participates in clinical research, when requested, for development and implementation of new techniques in cancer treatments.
Instructs/supervises students, as needed
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of Dosimetry or B.S. in Basic Science
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board through the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists documents the required experience and proficiency in the field of medical dosimetry.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
Certification by the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists is required (see above).
