Development and Major Gifts Director - TCH Foundation - Full Time - Days

The Director of Development, Major Gifts will secure philanthropic gifts through a process of identifying, qualifying, strategizing, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift donors and prospects of The Christ Hospital (TCH) and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CON ).

The Director of Development must have a solid understanding of creative ways to structure major gifts for maximum benefit to both parties. Must be a highly energetic and motivated professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts in the five and six figure range and higher, including some million dollar prospects.

This position works collaboratively with the President and Executive Director of the Foundation, executive staffs, physicians and trustee committee members.

The Director of Development must have strong organizational, communication, administrative and problem solving skills and have the ability to interact with staff at all levels in a fast paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

Identify and manage a portfolio of 50+ major gift prospects and donors, cultivating, soliciting, and when appropriate, closing gifts.

Research, identify, cultivate and develop relationships with new individual/corporate donors of major gift capacity (through personal contacts and external networking) to introduce them to The Christ Hospital and engage them.

Assist Foundation president and executive director with a comprehensive development program for the Hospital, The College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Departments, Units and Affiliates.

Become a key player in achieving The Christ Hospital Foundation's revenue goals on schedule, in a manner consistent with the hospital's culture and operating plans.

Establish and maintain a donor cultivation cycle and gift stewardship program to ensure that new major donors are developed and current donors have opportunities to increase their level of support.

Establish budget goals in consultation with management and develop strategies to reach them. Create a menu of giving opportunities centered on hospital and college funding initiatives.

Use moves management to move through the levels of the donor pyramid and personally conduct a predetermined number of one-to-one visits and other contacts with prospects and donors on a yearly basis.

Draft and produce compelling written materials, sometimes in conjunction with PR and marketing, including case materials, collateral, solicitation support materials and gift proposals.

Interact with physicians, hospital directors, other hospital and college executives, as well as patients and families. Responsible to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.

Recruit and support a team of key volunteers to implement successful solicitation strategies and engage in prospect identification.

Coordinate with PR and Marketing for major gift cultivation and recognition events.

Promote a collegial atmosphere within the Foundation, working cooperatively with all fundraising officers to help them and the Foundation attain their overall financial and advancement goals.

Stay current in field through professional memberships, reviewing appropriate journals, attending professional conferences and meetings and collaborating with peer groups at other institutions.

Effectively maintains current working knowledge of Raiser's Edge and has the responsibility to input contact reports, run statistical reports, and make appropriate changes to the donor database. Uses statistics to evaluate current major gift programs and to make recommendations for program changes.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

• Ability to organize and manage a diverse range of assignments and projects with high efficiency, yet thorough attention to detail and follow through.

• Ability to convey knowledge of, enthusiasm for and an affinity for The Christ Hospital's mission, values, and goals.

• Experience in developing prospect strategies, briefing documents and talking points for volunteers, administrators and trustees.

• Ability to make solicitations alone when appropriate. Successful experience in making cold calls.

• Computer literacy ((Excel, Word, PowerPoint), with experience with fundraising databases preferred.

• Advanced communication (both verbal and written), listening and conversing, analytical, administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills; and ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Tact, sensitivity, and mature judgment are required. Must be professional, organized, creative and efficient, able to work successfully both individually and as part of a team. Must be a self-starter.

• Must be comfortable in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment while effectively executing a challenging set of major gift plans and programs

• A CFRE professional designation is an asset

• 3 to 5 years of a successful track record of developing effective relationships with significant prospective and current donors and partners - with demonstrated success in securing major gifts as a result. Ability to develop and structure complex gifts.

• Experience in working with high level boards, volunteers, community and business leaders as well as interdisciplinary teams.

• Meeting agreed upon deadlines is essential.

• Experience in the full spectrum of philanthropic fund development, including major gifts, capital campaigns, annual giving, prospect research, and proposal development.

• Solid work ethic with a deep commitment to excellence and high professional standards

• High energy, positive, "can-do" attitude, flexibility and a high degree of initiative.

• Ability to develop and manage budgets and prepare financial reports.

• The Director of Development Major Gifts should know how to produce with a limited team and limited administrative support.
