Genetic Counseling Assistant

Job Description

Assists the Genetic Counselors and office staff in the Precision Medicine Program with collecting medical records, answering patient questions regarding the High-Risk Cancer Screening Clinic, disclosing negative genetic test results, data tracking and collection, as well as other follow-up tasks.

Responsibilities

Answer patient phone calls with inquiries about precision medicine clinics, make follow up calls to patients about scheduling for the High-Risk Cancer Screening Clinic appointments.

Administrative tasks including sending results to physicians as requested, contacting outside providers for records, sending consult notes for prior authorizations for insurance purposes.

Call to disclose negative test results to patients.

Collect data for clinic volumes, referral sources, results, etc.

Other Related Duties: Performs other related duties as requested or required.

Adheres to established standards in personal appearance and conduct.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION: High School Diplomate required; Bachelor's degree preferred

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: None required.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Ability to work autonomously or within a team, completion of department orientation and orientation provided training, ability to follow written or verbal instruction effectively; willingness to work under supervision; ability to communicate with patients over the phone and discuss basic genetic counseling concepts; empathy and sensitivity when conveying information; ability to use Microsoft software (specifically Excel and PowerPoint). Experience with Epic preferred.
