Manager, TCHP-RN - Medical Oncology

Job Description

This position will be scheduled approximately 40 hours per week and will work in our Medical Oncology practices.

This Registered Nurse assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care to individual and groups of patient; directs and supervises other personnel assigned to assist with such care; and communicates effectively with other patient care personnel and Practice Manager.

Responsibilities

Assures the delivery of quality patient care.

1. Adheres to established policies and procedures.

2. Assures the delivery of quality patient care through consumer feedback, occurrence reports, product recall follow-ups, etc.

3. Is knowledgeable of and practices according to approved standards.

4. Determines other resources necessary for the delivery of patient care.

5. Collaborates with other departments to achieve continuity of patient care by providing education support and communication.

6. Assumes responsibility of office in the absence of the practice manager, i.e. when at meetings, vacation etc.

Coaches and supports development of staff.

1. Shares knowledge and/or directs staff to sources of information & acts as a resource to others.

2. Demonstrates proficient teaching skills for staff and patients, fosters a customer focus within staff, and demonstrates leadership qualities.

3. Volunteers for committee involvements.

4. Assesses and provides in-service education for staff and provides input into the evaluation of personnel training in that specialty..

5. Provides anecdotal documentation that may be used for the annual performance evaluations, improvement, or disciplinary processes for clinical staff.

6. Participates in interview process and provides input into hiring decisions for clinical staff.

7. Maintains basic competencies in all services relative to the needs of the department and is knowledgeable of technical equipment.

Clinical Responsibilities:

1. Documents brief patient history, measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, respirations, blood pressure, weight and height, records information on patient charts.

2. Reviews and updates medications list at each visit.

3. Conducts telephone communication such as receiving and documenting patient requests for medication and making pharmacy refill calls.

4. Completes referrals and prior authorizations as needed. Calls patients with test results according to the physician's instructions.

5. Coordinates Medical Assistant staff and work assignments by establishing training guides, competency and orientation checklists and developing quality assurance program.

6. Cleans and disinfects exam rooms. Performs cleaning and maintenance of equipment.

7. Coordinates the sterilization of instruments with Central Sterile Supply. Keeps and updates an inventory of instruments and supplies. Orders medical supplies.

8. Maintains and updates OSHA/CLIA binders.

9. Follows up with MA's regarding any messages that remains open and unanswered in their in baskets.

10. Assists physicians and staff with locating charts, labs and other miscellaneous records.

11. Ensures office is appropriately staffed with clinical resources, including Registered Nurses, Medical Assistants and Physicians.

Maintains Professionalism.

1. Serves as a positive role model to other staff members. Attendance is prompt and regular.

2. Ensures dress code of the Physician Division is followed.

3. Conduct is consistent with the rules and regulations of the hospital and the code of ethics for nursing.

4. Evaluates own competence.

5. Maintains competence in job duties. Pertinent in-services are attended as assigned (or posted).

6. Utilized methods to increase competence in job duties. Opportunities for self development are sought and utilized.

7. Self evaluation is conducted at least annually and discussed with office manager.

Organizational & Fiscal Responsibility:

1. Collaborates with other disciplines in the resolution of systems issues.

2. Fosters effective working relationships among members of the medical staff, nursing staff, and all other disciplines and departments of the hospital.

3. Represents the hospital in al interactions with consumers, physicians, and the public.

4. Resolves patient complaints, seeks customs feedback and provides appropriate follow-up to the manger.

5. Collaborates with managers, directors, peers, unit staff, physicians and other administrative staff in cost-containment efforts.

6. Gathers data to assist in budget preparation including justification, budget estimates, cost effectiveness, physician input, and preliminary evaluation, if appropriate.

7. Conducts and/or participates in product evaluation.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION: Registered Nurse required, BSN preferred.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years RN experience required, supervisory experience preferred.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

Must be current Registered Nurse in state of Ohio
