Job Description
Perform a variety of specialized, routine and non-routine tests, procedures, and examinations in one or more areas of work, such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, molecular, urinalysis, immunohematology for use by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of patients.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associates Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology (or graduation within 3 months of employment) required.
OR
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science or chemical, physical, or biological science (or graduation within 3 months of employment) required.
AND
Completion of educational and certification/licensure requirements that meet CLIA/CAP requirements for the performance of high complexity testing.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
1 year of laboratory experience preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of laboratory operations; familiarity with laboratory departments, functions and processes; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; PC word processing, and spreadsheet skills.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
MLT(ASCP), MT(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP) certification or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities
- Perform waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing as defined by CLIA. Perform chemical, bacteriological, serological, or microscopic laboratory test procedures on specimens in one or more laboratory sections. Perform tests requiring routine and/or complex instrumentation of various technologies.
- Perform and monitor quality control procedures and report results to ensure consistency and accuracy. Calibrate, standardize, and maintain equipment following established procedures. Perform troubleshooting techniques on instruments. Recognize instrument malfunctions and abnormal test results and take corrective action.
- Prepare reagents, standards and controls according to prescribed procedures. Validate, review and report results of tests performed.
- May assist higher level technical staff with the instruction and teaching of laboratory procedures and tests.
- Participate in the ordering activities for supplies, materials, and equipment as needed. Dispose of or properly handle biological, radioactive, and/or hazardous waste in a manner that is consistent with laboratory, local, state or federal government policy or regulation.
- Review and evaluate literature for new testing and techniques. Interpret laboratory results and discuss results with Pathologist, laboratory staff and other clinical staff. May suggest additional tests based on results obtained.
