MSK Programs Coordinator-RN

Job Description

Responsible for aspects of programmatical operations and development related to Patient Education and Engagement, Process improvement in conjunction with the PI department, Data Collection and reporting, operational optimization in conjunction with the departments impacting patient throughput, discharge coordination with social work, disease specific navigation, maintains STATIT dashboards, organizes monthly Spine Meetings, and enhancement of patient experience. Works with Medical Director of MSK and Spine and Executive Director of the MSK Service Line to assist in the development and growth of the programs and utilizes local and regional resources to assist in the program's optimal development and growth. Plans and implements, in conjunction with marketing, public relations and physician relations staffs, an aggressive physician and patient marketing program to develop an awareness of the programs and its services and to increase patient volumes. Oversees accreditations associated with advanced certifications.

Responsibilities

Administrative Leadership :

  • Coordinates performance improvement initiatives in assigned areas to improve outcomes with the PI department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of job standards and key requirements for each staff position in assigned areas of responsibility
  • Supports peer review systems and implements as feasible with mechanisms in place for staff input into their own evaluations.
  • Support in conducting regular service line meetings
  • Creates an atmosphere that encourages staff participation in hospital-based activities.
  • Supports professionalism through ethical conduct, appearance, positive communication, attendance and holding self accountable for same standards set for staff.
  • Participates in councils, task forces, and special projects as assigned or requested and provides opportunities for staff.
  • Ensures that patient satisfaction targets are achieved and maintained.


Operations:

  • Develops and implements models of patient care delivery which maximize resources and productivity with respect for individual rights, preferences, ethnicity, culture and diversity in conjunction with other departments impacting MSK Spine
  • Supports in ensuring a safe environment is maintained for patients, personnel, physicians, and visitors.
  • With leadership, establishes work goals or quantitative/qualitative standards to be achieved with staff input.
  • Works with nursing to ensure the nursing process is utilized in care delivery.
  • Supports daily operations for MSK and Spine navigation, survivorship, nutrition, social work and supportive staff
  • Responsible for operations related to quality and Performance improvement in conjunction with the PI department
  • Informs risk manager of serious or potentially serious patient/visitor problems and issues as soon as they are identified.
  • In conjunction with nursing, assists in coordinating nursing care with other healthcare departments, and assists in integrating MSK and Spine services across the continuum of health care.
  • Facilitates and maintains accreditation and other advanced certification program certifications


Finance :

  • Identifies and quantifies resources needed to support patient care activities in areas of assigned responsibility. Acts in a cost-conscious manner taking into account the limitations of resources in order to maintain productivity standards.
  • Balances patient and program needs, quality, and cost effectiveness.
  • Prepares and participates in finance budget meeting presentation for areas of responsibility.
  • Stays current on health care finance and reimbursement issues.
  • Manages and organizes work through objectives leading to goal attainment.
  • Demonstrates business acumen when developing budgets.
  • Relates budget to organization strategic plan.


Provider and Facility Billing :

  • Responsible for being knowledgeable about managed care and insurance/billing requirements
  • Maintain and review charge master and billing forms for correct and compliant CPT, HCPCS and ICD 9 Codes


Marketing :

  • Ensure all curricula, patient brochures and marketing materials are current related to MSK Spine programs
  • Responsible for development and execution of business and marketing plans


Professional

  • Maintains and seeks responsibility for self development.
  • May participate in hospital leadership programs.
  • Networks with colleagues to share ideas, trends, and innovations in areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains membership and association in professional nursing organizations, incorporates standards into operations to keep current with community and nation practice trends.
  • Shares knowledge and information with peers, other nursing managers, and encourages changes in practice based on research and scientific principles.
  • Appropriately represents nursing and/or the hospital in the community.
  • Seeks out opportunities for and supports community service activities.


Qualifications

EDUCATION: Required to be a g raduate of an accredited school of nursing and has RN-BSN degree.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: Required to have a minimum of 3 years of relevant nursing experience, preferably in hospital peri-op operations and/or floor nursing. Additional experience in physician practice operations, ambulatory management, or with spine patient care is preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and professionalism required to interact with patients, providers, and staff
  • Excellent verbal and analytical skills, extensive knowledge of business and medical terminology and systems
  • Good problem solving, decision making, time management, and leadership skills.
  • Understanding of budgets and financial systems
  • Solid organizational skills, initiative and innovation. Ability to respond quickly and purposefully to routine and unusual situations.
  • Coordinate equipment purchases and ensure all equipment in the office is adequately maintained and services.


LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS :

Requires graduate of an approved School of Nursing and Current active RN licensure to practice nursing in the state of employment. Memberships in professional organizations is desirable. BLS certification would be required prior to any patient contact.
