PHARMACIST

Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, and according to standard procedure, an inpatient pharmacist compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceuticals upon receiving orders from a licensed practitioner; performs all duties necessary to provide for the effective daily operation of all departmental services and programs; supervises support personnel in all work areas as assigned.

Responsibilities

Unit Dose:

Understands the Epic system which allows them to effectively review, verify, and prioritize orders using the chart to ensure medications prescribed are the appropriate dose, frequency and administration times; drug allergies, drug-drug interactions, drug-disease and incompatibilities are avoided. Supports the formulary.

IV Area:

Accurately dispenses properly labeled medications following the scanning process. Supports and follows the most up to date USP guidelines (797/800). Understands the Abacus software / Baxa pump.

Prioritizes and monitors daily operational duties in assigned areas using support personnel in the most effective manner, including coordination of break and lunch (dinner), to ensure patient care services are maintained.

Monitors drug supply and initiates orders as required as well as regularly inspecting pharmacy and assigned department inventory to ensure that drugs which are outdated are removed from stock.

Properly maintains all pharmacy records as required by State, Federal and Department of Pharmacy regulations for the dispensing and disposition of narcotics, dangerous drugs and investigational drugs. Follows departmental and hospital safety policies and procedures.

As a representative of The Christ Hospital, promotes a positive image in all dealings with all other hospital employees and hospital guests. Assists in the identification and problem-solving activities within the department and with other health care professionals. Shows initiative for quality improvement.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS :

EDUCATION: B.S in Pharmacy or PharmD

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: None required. One- or two-years hospital experience preferred.

Demonstrated pharmacy practice skills required

Demonstrated written and verbal communication required

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Ohio
