Pharmacy Technician - Full Time - Evening

Job Description

The Outpatient Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Specialist will provide evidence-based, high-quality clinical pharmacy care to oncology patients in a physician-based outpatient oncology clinic. The primary responsibility will be overseeing and enforcing appropriate preparation and administration of antineoplastic medications. Additional responsibilities include counseling patients on medications and health subjects, managing patient drug therapy for complications, and performing drug utilization review as needed. They will collaborate closely with physicians, mid-level practitioners, nurses, and other health-care practitioners to provide safe, high-quality, and cost-effective drug therapy. They must understand and properly incorporate a growing number of oncologic therapies (both oral and IV) that are both highly specialized and highly expensive. They will also work closely with the inpatient hematology/oncology clinical pharmacy specialist to maintain the hematology/oncology drug Formulary and policies/procedures related to antineoplastic medications.

Responsibilities

Clinical duties: antineoplastic therapy order review, clinically referencing lab values for appropriate dosing of chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy drugs for standard-of-care therapies, communication and therapy coordination for oncology patients, and being a liaison and educator to the oncology nurses.

Regulatory duties: oversight of compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 standards, as applied to the preparation and administration of antineoplastic and non-antineoplastic medications.

Administrative duties: Formularly management and policy/procedure maintenance (in conjunction with inpatient hematology/oncology pharmacy specialist)

Qualifications

EDUCATION: OPL - Ohio Pharmacists License Required

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 1 to 2 years of position-related experience required

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

PGY1 Required, PGY2 in Hematology/Oncology Preferred
