The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) may perform the following duties:
- Performs and monitors patient progress and response to service. Assesses patients and makes appropriate recommendations based on outcomes with regard to therapeutic interventions.
- Performs invasive and noninvasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- In accordance with hospital policy and procedure, performs all duties as a respiratory care practitioner as assigned.
- Correctly records all information in the patient legal record and maintains department records.
- Educates patients on their diseases state, wellness, home care modalities and safety. Treatments performed as related to age specific needs.
- Applies technical knowledge to consult physicians with regard to cardiopulmonary status.
- Participates in in-services and meetings, completes competencies. Monitors all department communications.
- May be responsible for charge/team leader roles and other assigned duties (RCP IV only)
- Other duties as assigned.
Education/Licensure:
- Limited Permit Holders (RCP I): Actively enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy program or awaiting to take NBRC entry level exam. Candidate must have a current license to practice respiratory care issued by the state. Current BLS.
- Experienced Therapists (RCP III ): Graduate of a Respiratory Therapy program and/or maintains the CRT credential. Any new hire that holds the CRT credential must be Registry Eligible and will have 1 year from date of employment to complete the RRT exam in order to maintain their employment with the organization as a respiratory therapist.
- Experienced Therapists (RCP III IV): Graduate of a Respiratory Therapy program with RRT credential.
