Job Description

The Heart and Vascular sonographers perform non-invasive ultrasound in the modalities of vascular and echocardiography. They develop client relationships through excellent patient care. They act as an educational resource to clients, providing quality and value to all aspects of services. The Sonographer will be able to participate in research and in procedures and will work in a supportive environment and be extensively trained on our protocols and standards while working on the latest equipment and technology.

Responsibilities

  • Perform non-invasive vascular and/or echo testing and all duties of a Sonographer.
  • Follows established testing protocols. Produces highest possible quality study images & data by demonstrating competence on and proper use of all imaging and accessory equipment.
  • Obtains an appropriate history prior to each test with each patient.
  • Responsible for seeing that there is supporting information and documentation for the exam being performed.
  • Employs knowledge of the ultrasound technology to determine if an order revision is appropriate and notifies appropriate individual.
  • Adequately explains testing procedures to patients, family members as necessary, and hospital staff members connected to the care of the patient.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with clients and co-workers.
  • Responsible for efficient provision of services.
  • Works to ensure a collaborative effort with peers to achieve maximum productivity.
  • Effectively schedules add-on and emergency exams to maintain work flow.
  • Communicates with the patient care areas to properly prep patients and sends for patients in a timely manner.
  • Keeps the assigned areas clean and ensures adequate stock of supplies.
  • Communicates equipment maintenance needs to the Lead and operates equipment safely and properly.
  • Follows Quality Control standards and participates in departmental process improvement activities.
  • Participates in Peer Review as requested and other departmental Process Improvement expectations.
  • Keeps up to date on new or revised testing protocols and with professional continuing education as required for licensure or certification.
  • Is effective in complying with annual hospital and departmental safety, education and in-service requirements on a timely basis.
  • Attends department meetings and shares responsibility for agenda.


Qualifications

Education:

• Graduate from an accredited Ultrasound training program or has completed on the job experience/training and has an ARDMS Registry in related ultrasound specialty (echo/vascular) or is registry eligible.

Years of Experience:

  • Must have at least one-year previous experience performing respective modality; OR must be a graduate of or within 6 months of hire date graduation from a diagnostic ultrasound program, preferably CAAHEP approved.


Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written / verbal).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with hospital management, physicians and technologists.
  • Current knowledge of technology and clinical advances related to cardia and/or vascular sonography.
  • Working knowledge of accreditation, credentialing, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Basic understanding of imager configuration, DICOM standards, networking and medical records


License & Certification:

  • ARDMS/CCI registered or registry eligible.
  • Must pass the registry within the first year of employment if not registered at time of hire.
  • Maintain continuing education requirements as set forth by ARDMS, CCI, IAC.
