Job Description

Under supervision of the Mohs micrographic surgeon, the Histotech will map, cut, and stain the surgical specimens according to the outlined Mohs technique. Obtain histology slides from outside the lab as necessary and maintain records of all tissue and slides which come into our laboratory. Maintain operation of the lab consistent with OSHA and CLIA guidelines.

Responsibilities

Receives and accessions tissue, cytology specimens and prepare specimens for storage, preservation, identification and labeling.

Cuts and stains thin sections according to established procedures for routine and special stains.

Cutting and staining of tissues for frozen sections.

Disposes stains, and cleans glass containers and petri dishes.

Maintains equipment, instruments and cleanliness of working area and maintains a safe, clean work environment including proper labeling and storage of chemicals and specimens (and disposal of same).

Researches, troubleshoots, and resolves histology related inquiries and problems within the laboratory.

Performs staining procedures on routine, processed and frozen tissue.

Prepares frozen tissues on routine Mohs surgery specimens.

Prepares reagent, solution, and stain as needed according to specific instructions and label

Operates and maintains equipment within the scope of training utilizing defined scheduled and written instructions to perform quality control checks and preventive maintenance.

Records daily temperatures of cryostat.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION: HS diploma/GED, technical training,

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 2 or more years within a healthcare setting, preferably within a dermatology practice.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Education in dermatology preferred

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS &/or CERTIFICATIONS:

ASCP preferred
