Job Description
Please state the main function of this position in one or two sentences.
Responsibilities include the collection of data on all cases of malignant disease, diagnosed and treated within the facility. Prepares routine and special reports that summarize the cancer treatment experience at the hospital from initial diagnosis to follow-up care after discharge. Responsible for updating and maintaining all cancer registry data.
Responsibilities
• Abstracts and codes into the ERS data system from inpatient and outpatient medical records regarding cancer diagnosis, therapy, and follow-up.
• Does follow-up on living patients after treatment and discharge form the hospital to collect information on the quality of life for these patients and length of survival.
• Completes or assists in all hospital related cancer studies and/or research projects.
• Answers requests for data from physicians and healthcare administrators.
• Completes two Patient Care Evaluation studies per year for the American College of Surgeons.
• Prepares agenda, attends and records minutes for the weekly tumor board conference and quarterly Oncology Committee meetings.
• Performs other tasks as assigned or needed.

Evidence exists that The Health Alliance staff considers the special needs and behaviors of the specific patient populations served. Evidence also exists that shows the staff demonstrates those competencies that address the unique characteristics related to developmental, physical, psychosocial, mental, emotional, and social needs of patients across the life span. Associates should also be able to demonstrate those competencies that address the needs of patients with unique cultural norms, religious preferences, language/communication barriers and/or literacy limitation
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL:
Please describe any specialized knowledge or skills that are REQUIRED to perform the position duties. Do not list personal credentials of the current jobholder that would not be required if the job were being filled. List any special education required for this position.
Has the ability to type accurately; good knowledge of English for preparation on minutes; ability to code and retrieve data using the International Classification for Disease for Oncology.
EDUCATION:
Associate's Degree preferred
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year experience (preferred); oncology experience preferred
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS-C)
