Clinical Laboratory IT Manager - Main Immediate Response Lab - Full Time - Days

Job Description

The Laboratory IT Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the information technology infrastructure and systems used in laboratory environments. This includes ensuring the smooth operation, integration, and security of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), lab instrumentation software, data management systems, and IT support for laboratory staff. The role bridges the gap between IT and laboratory operations, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and innovation.

Responsibilities

System Management:

  • Maintain and support Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), and other lab-related software.
  • Ensure compatibility and integration between lab instruments and IT systems.
  • Oversee data storage, backup, and recovery processes for lab-generated data.


IT Infrastructure:

  • Manage servers, workstations, and networks supporting laboratory systems.
  • Ensure systems are secure, patched, and compliant with relevant standards (e.g., HIPAA)


Project Management:

  • Lead implementation and upgrade projects for lab IT systems.
  • Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and internal stakeholders on system requirements and deployments.


Compliance & Documentation:

  • Ensure systems comply with regulatory and quality standards.
  • Maintain documentation including SOPs, validation records, and system configuration.
  • Analyze data and generate reports from laboratory information systems.


User Support & Training:

  • Provide IT support and troubleshooting for laboratory staff and scientists.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions on lab systems and software.


Collaboration:

  • Work closely with laboratory leadership, scientists, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, and corporate IT to align technology with lab operations.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies to improve lab productivity and data integrity.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff performance.
  • Provide input to the director in the development and monitoring of the capital and operating budget. Share in the responsibility for managing budget and achieving financial performance goals.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field required. Master's degree or certifications in IT or lab systems (e.g., LIMS, , PMP) preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 5+ years of progressive responsibility and experience in laboratory environment or IT systems management.

Hands-on experience with LIMS, and scientific instrument integration.

Experience in regulated environments (GxP, CLIA, CAP, ISO, etc.) is highly desirable.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Superior time management and organizational skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong understanding of lab workflows and instrumentation.

Knowledge of database systems, scripting, and integration tools.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders.

Work Environment:

This position may require occasional work in lab environments and server rooms.

On-call or after-hours support may be required during system upgrades or incidents.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

MT(ASCP) certification or equivalent preferred.
