Job Description
Provide leadership and technical support for the day-to-day operations of a functional unit of the laboratory.
Responsibilities
1. Helps to plan and oversee the activities of the Technical Specialist and Lead Medical Technologists. Ensures training and ongoing competency of the staff is maintained. Provides Continuing Education opportunities for the staff.
2. Plans and organizes work activities in conjunction with the director. Coordinates resource needs for special projects. Manages scheduling to assure appropriate staffing levels are maintained. Allocates resources in a manner consistent with the financial goals of the department and the organization
3. Participates in the assessment and hiring of new employees. Functions in conjunction with the director to implement any necessary corrective counseling. Completes routine evaluations of all employees within the functional unit.
4. Coordinates documentation of and provides a quarterly report of Performance Improvement activities. Consults with both internal and external customers to assess their needs and to provide superior customer service. Recommends and implements changes to work processes. Works cooperatively with other departments to foster good working relationships and improve lab service
5. Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to guide activities of the department.
6. Provides input to the director in the development and monitoring of the capital and operating budget. Shares in the responsibility for managing budget and achieving financial performance goals.
7. Ensures compliance with accrediting agencies and government regulations.
8. Provides assistance to the director by performing all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or a related field
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in a functional area preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Superior time management and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
MT(ASCP) certification or equivalent as defined in the Laboratory Hiring and Promotion Policy.
