Responsibilities
Training & Development:
- Create and implement comprehensive training programs aimed at enhancing the skills of new hires as well as existing laboratory staff.
- Facilitate engaging hands-on training sessions focused on laboratory procedures, instrumentation, and safety protocols to enhance skills and ensure a safe working environment.
- Coordinate continuing education (CE) activities and maintain CE records.
Competency Assessment:
- Design and implement a framework for initial and ongoing competency assessments to enhance skill development and effectiveness.
- Monitor and document staff performance and proficiency.
- Identify areas where knowledge or skills could be enhanced and implement targeted training to foster growth and improvement.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure training content aligns with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other applicable regulations.
- Maintain documentation required for audits and inspections.
Curriculum Development:
- Create instructional materials, manuals, SOPs, and e-learning modules.
- Stay updated with advancements in laboratory science and incorporate them into training.
Collaboration & Support:
- Engage collaboratively with laboratory managers, quality assurance teams, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive and effective work environment.
- Support implementation of new tests or technologies by providing education and change management assistance.
Community:
- Act as a liaison between the laboratory and other services, evaluating needs and providing ongoing education.
Leadership:
- Demonstrates leadership skills such as the ability to motivate, educate, delegate, and mentor peers and other members of the team. Acts as a resource and educator for multidisciplinary team members and students, continuously evaluating and documenting competency.
Other:
- Perform other related responsibilities as assigned in order to meet the goals of the laboratory.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or related field required.
- Master's degree or formal education/training background preferred.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical laboratory experience.
- Previous experience in training, education, or instructional design preferred. Phlebotomy experience preferred.
