MANAGER, CLINICAL-RN - Diabetes, Palliative Care, Stroke Programs

Job Description

This position leads resources over Diabetes Education, Palliative Care and Primary Stroke initiatives and works to ensure regulatory requirements are met. The Manager has major responsibility for the implementation of the vision, mission, philosophy, core values, evidence-based practice, and standards of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the overall Palliative Care, and Primary Stroke programs, management, implementation of the programs and creating desirable outcomes. Implement short term and long-term goals for program development and economic success.
  • Cultivate existing relationships with various interdisciplinary team members through communication, active participation in house wide groups / initiatives in alignment with program goals.
  • Manage the data collection and reporting requirements for the program.
  • Maintain and oversee all the requirements for the Joint Commission's Disease Specific Care (DSC) Certification for Primary Stroke Care Program, Palliative Care, Diabetes Education Services.
  • Maintain and oversee all the requirements for the American Diabetes Association (ADA), Accreditation for outpatient sites.


Administrative Leadership

  • Leads performance improvement initiatives in assigned areas to improve outcomes.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of job standards and key requirements for each staff position in assigned areas of responsibility, holding subordinates accountable for the responsibilities inherent to their positions.
  • Provides feedback/counseling, and discipline to assigned staff as appropriate.
  • Provides assigned staff with performance evaluations as defined by HR.
  • Supports peer review systems and implements as feasible with mechanisms in place for staff input into their own evaluations.
  • Provides structure and opportunity for staff to establish and accomplish their goals.
  • Delegates appropriate responsibility and accountability for designated management activities.
  • Conducts regular leadership and department meetings.
  • Creates an atmosphere that encourages staff participation in nursing and hospital-based activities.
  • Ensure staff maintains/achieves necessary competencies for their job functions.
  • Supports professionalism through ethical conduct, appearance, positive communication, attendance and holding self accountable for same standards set for staff.
  • Participates in councils, task forces, and special projects as assigned or requested and provides opportunities for staff.
  • Ensure that patient satisfaction targets are achieved and maintained.


Operations

  • Ensures personnel work hours best meet the needs of the assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Develops and implements models of patient care delivery which maximize resources and productivity with respect for individual rights, preferences, ethnicity, culture, and diversity.
  • Ensures safe and therapeutic environment is maintained for patients, personnel, physicians, and visitors.
  • Fills staff vacancies in a timely manner.
  • Establishes work goals or quantitative/qualitative standards to be achieved with staff input.
  • Ensures the nursing process is utilized in care delivery.
  • Ensure new hires receive appropriate and timely orientation, with processes documented per policy.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of department operations, quality, and appropriateness of care.
  • Conducts and facilitates performance assessment and improvement activities for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Informs risk manager of serious or potentially serious patient/visitor problems and issues as soon as they are identified.
  • Coordinates nursing care with other healthcare disciplines and assists in integrating services across the continuum of health care.


Finance

  • Identifies and quantifies resources needed to support patient care activities in areas of assigned responsibility. Acts in a cost-conscious manner considering the limitations of resources to maintain productivity standards.
  • Balances patient needs, quality, and cost effectiveness.
  • Prepares and participates in finance budget meeting presentation for areas of responsibility.
  • Stays current on health care finance and reimbursement issues.
  • Manages and organizes work through objectives leading to goal attainment.
  • Demonstrates business acumen when developing budgets.
  • Relates budget to organization strategic plan.


Professional

  • Maintains and seeks responsibility for self development.
  • Participates in hospital Leadership programs.
  • Networks with colleagues to share ideas, trends, and innovations in areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains membership and association in professional nursing organizations, incorporates standards into operations to keep current with community and nation practice trends.
  • Shares knowledge and information with peers, other nursing leaders and encourages changes in practice based on research and scientific principles.
  • Appropriately represents nursing and/or the hospital in the community.
  • Assists staff in developing professionally through pursuit of additional education, clinical advancement/ ladder, and certifications.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor's degree required. MSN Preferred.



LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS :

Graduate of an approved School of Nursing and Current RN licensure in the state of employment. The RN holds a current license to practice nursing in her/his state of employment. Membership in professional organizations is desirable. Certification in area of specialty is desirable. BLS certification is required prior to patient contact.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years in clinical nursing practice. One (1) year experience in leadership position.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Demonstrated knowledge of nursing, healthcare, and organizational systems, and strategies. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in performance improvement theory and application. Knowledge of TJC standards and other external organizations related to healthcare evaluation and accreditation. Experience with the methodologies and processes related to organizational financial viability. Well developed communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
