Professional Practice Evaluation Manager - Main Quality Mgt Svcs - Full Time - Days

Job Description

The Manager, Professional Practice provides expert consultation, collaborative development, and implementation of all practitioner peer review activities to further a culture of safety through a non-punitive approach. This includes supporting the medical staff practitioner evaluation activities through identifying and preparing cases for practitioner evaluation. This position promotes and maintains a systemic method to support Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE) at a system level to meet accreditation standards and provide a mechanism to provide practitioner performance feedback. Facilitates peer review of clinical performance within Service Line Provider Enhancement Committee to collaborates to improve care delivery. Identifies and evaluates patient care issues using applied knowledge, clinical experience, and analytical skills. Works in collaboration with providers within the Medical Staff to implement professional practice evaluation to meet regulatory compliance of providers.

  • Collaborates with Medical Staff to perform physician peer review including OPPE reviews in strict accordance with accreditation bodies.
  • Screens and completes case reviews and analyses for contributing factors to the variance in care/or complications in care.
  • Completes annual Provider Enhancement Committee reports, that are reported to Medical Staff as deemed appropriate.
  • Collaborate with appropriate Medical Staff leadership, VPMA/CMO, and other as needed.
  • Document Divisional OPPE reviews in collaboration with policy and Provider Enhancement Committee Chairs.
  • Analyze monthly OPPE metrics dashboards for each clinical Department as well as individual Practitioner dashboards for the defined OPPE cycle.
  • Serve as a resource and content expert for all Professional Practice Evaluation (PPE) compliance, quality in accordance with Joint Commission, CMS and other regulatory agencies.
  • In collaboration with Medical Staff and clinical quality and safety leaders, collects, evaluates, analyzes and reports data required for Practitioner performance and Professional Practice Evaluation
  • Proficiently facilitates and manages Peer Review database, and serves as the platform administrator, providing support to end users.
  • Oversees physician peer review data is entered in the appropriate database in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Coordinates review activities with medical staff leaders, written and oral communication with reviewers, management of highly sensitive information and other duties as directed by the VPMA and Director of Medical Staff Services.
  • Coordinates and facilitates external peer reviews as needed
  • Communicates Peer Review findings and determinations with provider(s) involved in the case(s) reviewed
  • Maintains documentation of findings and outcomes in the secure data reporting system
  • Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory guidelines and requirements, state and federal statutes, and medical bylaws, rules and policies.
  • Provides information and education on the peer review process to medical staff as necessary.
  • Identifies organizational process improvement opportunities using data and information gained through entity needs assessment.
  • Recommends policy or process revision accordance with regulatory standards.

Leadership

• Provides consultation and support for hospital-based decisions.

• Reviews/Administers staff performance appraisals and makes recommendations regarding employee development plans.

• Participates in decisions relating to defining and giving an unsatisfactory performance appraisal, 90 day performance review, extension of introductory period or termination.

• Regularly discusses plans for employees in the discipline system as well as employee recognition for significant contribution.

• Participates/Chairs in regular meetings with staff to serve as problem solving forums and team building.

• Assists staff in the development of unit-based strategies to implement the strategic vision that are consistent with the unit's purpose and objectives.

• Supports clinical manager, physicians, therapists, social workers and intake and other staff in the integration of TCH mission, vision and provision of quality patient care through sharing and discussion of information.

• Completes objective, annual performance appraisals for all direct reports as needed.

• Delegates responsibilities to qualified person during periods of absence.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION: BSN required; MSN preferred.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 5 years in Acute Care Setting, and leadership experience preferred

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must possess and consistently demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact well with physicians and other members of allied health care team.
  • Must be computer literate or willing to learn how to use computer applications relative to job.
  • High degree of professional judgement, flexibility and professionalism.
  • Must have knowledge of CMS and Joint Commission standards, and Ohio Department of Health as it relates to Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation.
