Sonographer Lead H&V - Main Cardiology Heart Station - Full Time - Days

Job Description

The Lead Sonographer has extensive sonography education, training and experience in the specialty area to be performed; extensive clinical experience in providing sonography services and demonstrated ability to mentor and support staff sonographers; Demonstrate commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning (ex: continuing medical education in the specialty area performed, higher education, research, staff training, etc...); Demonstrate proficiency with computer skills and software programs for documentation activities and report generation.

Responsibilities

Leadership Responsibilities:

  1. Function as the clinical, technical leader/expert in the cardiac sonography imaging within the facility.
  2. Assist with the pursuit and maintenance of cutting edge technical and clinical updates.
  3. Mentors staff and is a champion of advanced technology
  4. Responsible for daily organization of workflow and work assignments in the lab to ensure efficiency and productivity expectations are being met.
  5. Ensure staff compliance with clinical and operational protocols, policies and procedures.
  6. Provide oversight for the staff continuing education program to ensure that professional knowledge, expertise and skills are maintained.
  7. Assists the CV Manager with managing call coverage/rotations and scheduling
  8. Works collaboratively with manager and provides pertinent feedback for staff evaluations
  9. Prepare and initiate regular team meetings every 4-6 weeks.
  10. Utilizes service recovery techniques when necessary and serves as first contact with customer when the need arises
  11. Continues to serve as a working technologist in modality of competency
  12. Working knowledge of front desk responsibilities and acts as a resource when necessary
  13. In collaboration with the QA Sonographer: Performs routine quality metrics on sonography staff; organizes and executes QA meetings with the support of the manager
  14. Arranges for proper maintenance of equipment (routine preventative maintenance) and contacts Clinical Engineering when issues arise
  15. Serves in active role in assisting the Technical Director and CV Manager with maintaining lab accreditation and various TJC, FDA, ODH inspections
  16. Assists in communicating with staff regarding enterprise information
  17. Participates in interview process of new employee candidates. Assists in orientation/training of new staff members
  18. Ensures proper staff education requirements by assisting the CV manager to ensure that staff professional education requirements are met and maintained, including registries, certifications and/or accreditation standards.
  19. Responsible for orientation to department and IT systems for new employees
  20. Ability to order supplies through appropriate information system and works collaboratively with each area to maintain needed supply levels


Communication/Customer Service Responsibility:

1. Greets patient by introducing self and asking patient to verify their name and

Birthdate.

2. Takes pertinent patient history. Reviews order for accuracy.

3. Explains procedure to the patient and solicits questions to assure understanding.

4. Is proactive in anticipating needs of the patient, keeps patient and family informed of

delays, answers question and responds appropriately to concerns. Following up on any issues.

5. Communicates with all customers, coworkers, physicians and their office staff in a professional manner respecting differences.

6. Adheres to all hospital/imaging center policies and Excel core values striving to exceed expectations.

Clinical Responsibility:

1. Follows the appropriate clinical responsibility job description depending on modality of competency

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Ability to evaluate the technical competence of technologists and provide guidance and education to assure quality. Experience in the setup, implementation and operation of cardiovascular laboratories. Flexibility in work schedule. Ability to travel within the TCHHN service area. Ability to work independently. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Proficient in MS office. Must be a team player.

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited ultrasound training program, Associate's degree required. Bachelor's degree preferred.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 7 years of cardiac ultrasound scanning experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) required. Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required. Incumbent is expected to have or obtain the most advanced registry credential within the cardiac ultrasound field within 1 year of hire. In addition, must have or obtain Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE) within 1 year of hire.
